During my second visit to Western Michigan University, I participated in my third and final formal recruitment of the semester. The first round of recruitment took place in the student union – most schools seem to be headed to this new model. I had the opportunity to work with Kassy, the chapter’s recruitment supervisor, who traveled as a consultant a few years ago.
The women handled unannounced split parties like champs – including one event where 12 unannounced women showed up half way through the time.
Round two was moved back into the house. Philanthropy night included a video that highlighted the chapter’s work in the local community. The chapter wore t-shirts that vaguely resembled a Yankee’s jersey T-shirt (luckily, it is not one).
Round three was the sisterhood round that included pink, pink and more pink. The kitchen was even decorated with a complete tulle ceiling!
On Sunday, the chapter participated in preference, a Walk to End Alzheimer’s and bid night! The chapter women all met up in the field house to find out who their new members are. New members were given their chapters’ shirts ahead of time and wore a hoodie over them. The new members lined up in groups in front of all the chapters and revealed what chapter they were in before running to their respective chapters. The women of Gamma Beta welcomed 25 new members to their chapter to their nautical themed bid day.
